love story |  anna mahjula

I had brick-by-bricked
solitude
around myself
like a fortress.

Somehow it had slipped pass
that first silken spider strand
her first gossamer words
threads so nebulous
at first I doubted their gentle pull.

Over turbulent months
she wove rainbow words
into stubborn rope
and threw it into the storm
to bridge treacherous waters.

She said "reach"
time and again
out of frustration
out of anger
out of love

"Reach"

Weary
and broken
as I was
I would have followed
that word to the moon
for love of her.

Her voice led me far beyond
the sharp drop of my horizon.
It guided me back to myself
and safely home to her.

I tried to shelter my love
against this raging sea
but my heart is too mortal
love is what shelters me.
